Carl Vilardo Jr. (pictured above with family and friends), a life-long Westfield resident and former Westfield Town Board member was honored recently when the Board unanimously named a road after him.
On Wednesday, May 1st, 2013 the Town Board of the Town of Westfield passed a resolution to officially change the name of Reid Road in the Town of Westfield to Vilardo Road. This action was in honor of Carl Vilardo Jr.'s 38 years of service as a Town Board member and also to recognize the more than 100 years of the Vilardo family's role in the agricultural community.
On Thursday, May 9th, the Town Board along with Vilardo’s family and several members of the community and gathered on the corner of Walker Road and Vilardo Road to make the surprise presentation. Roberta Vilardo (Carl’s wife) got him out of the house and to the site without spoiling the surprise.
Town Supervisor Martha Bills read Resolution #26 of 2013 and presented Carl with a plaque. "I think it's pretty nice, big surprise," Vilardo Jr. said. "It makes me feel real proud. (I am) happy that the town board considered it and thought it was worth doing."
"It’s a great honor for him," Roberta Vilardo said. "He’s overwhelmed."
