Behind the Lens: Photography and Technology of the Mid-20th Century
Blair Koss, Founder and Designer, Rosie’s Workshop will discuss the history of film photography focusing on technology breakthroughs that enable artistic innovation. Two photographers will be featured, with numerous works shared:
- Tony Vacarro. Best known for his live action photos during WWII and photojournalism work during the 1950s-1980s
- Ruth Orkin. The woman who invented street photography using the new 35mm still cameras.
For those in person, this will be a hands-on workshop where you will be invited to handle the vintage cameras exactly like the photographers used. There are also original film negatives, glass negatives, magazine contact sheets and prints from Tony Vacarros work (courtesy of Robert Hopper).
This event will also be streamed to the Library Teen Virtual Convention.
